Hurricane player killed

I just saw on espn that Bryan Pata a DE from Miami was shot and killed today.

when it rains it [censored] pours. I could cry at this point.

From people close to the program, they say he was murdered in a nice little neighborhood of Kendall, a suburb of Miami. Pata was a very close friend of Brandon Meriweather and could have been involved in feud with the guys that shot Willie Cooper before Meriweather fired back earlier this season.

All of this is specualation, but its pretty obvious he was someones target.

Could cry? Buddy...I did--don't know if it caught me wrong this evening w/my mood and all, but I broke down. Pata was one of the nicest guys on the team. He played both DT and DE on this team, and was going to head for the league and realize his dream. He's one of the few guys on this team when I watch the games that I thought hadn't given up and hadn't been tamed down by Coker's influence on the program. He was all Cane.

I dare someone to point to this and say that it's another piece of evidence saying that Miami's team is full of thugs. I don't care if this guy would have been playing for VT, OSU*, UT, or whereever--when stuff like this happens, it's a [censored] shame. The guy that did this deserves to fry.

Just think mega--if not for Meriweather opening fire on the burglar creeping around the house during fall drills, we might be talking about another dead Cane in addition to him and Cooper. A [censored] shame. My prayers are with his family, both Cane related and immediate first and foremost.

Pata was recruited by VT and I, personally, wouldve really liked to have had him...his interviews seemed to give off the impression that he was a genuine guy with good motives...and he could play some ball too

I did end up crying this morning when I saw his family on tv and read the article about him pouring gatorade on clint hurtt(d-line coach) since it was hurtt's birthday yesterday. I got a big smile when they talked about when he was recruited out of Central and was a silent to Miami, the media asked him where he was going to college and he said Alaska State [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

But I swear to God Ive never read something in my life that pissed me off more than this gem by MSNBC.

And so, it really doesn't matter why Pata was shot or by whom. He played for the Hurricanes. He died violently. If it happened at Ohio State, we'd be shocked. But at Miami, a lot of people will say it's not even a surprise: when you recruit thugs, such things happen.

This part is gonna be a true satement for most people and their view of Miami, other than Miami fans that is.

This last line was uncalled for and will bring a reaciton most likely the dismissal of the person that wrote it. Even though like I said most outside of Miami fans view the prgoram this way you have to stay PC and not print stuff like this.

Having said this my thoughts go out to his friends/family and teamates. I don't know anything about this kid other than what I have read on here this morning but I will say I value the opinion of CoeburnCane on the character of this kid.
